The PA12BMW and PA12BMWDSP provide direct connection for an iPod and an optional audio source such as satellite radio, DVD, or video game system. Both the iPod and the additional audio source can be selected from the factory radio's front panel. Allows selection of tracks or playlists and displays artist and title information on Text compatible radios. The PA12BMWDSP is for use on vehicles equipped with the DSP (Digital Signal Processing ) radios that use an optical connection. Compatible with most iPod models featuring the dock connector.  Two different modes to control and play your iPod: Playlist mode or Direct Mode.  The buttons on the radio select between Playlist Mode, Direct mode and Aux Input.

Playlist Mode: Use iTunes to create up to 4 favorite playlists and access them directly from the radio.  In Playlist Mode the iPod's controls are locked and the radio controls are used to access the contents on the device. Artist name and song title will be displayed on select model BMW Business CD radios.

Direct Mode: Search and select music on iPod just as you would in portable use. The iPod's controls are unlocked and offer complete access to all the contents on the device. You can use Direct Mode to listen to music streamed from Pandora or SIRIUS XM Online! Use radio or steering wheel controls to perform track up/down, fast forward/rewind and volume up/down. No text is displayed in Direct Mode.

Both modes charge the iPod while connected, for up to one hour to prevent over-charging.

Compatible with iPhone4 and older iPhones running iOS4 (iPhone 3Gs & 3G with iOS4)!

Special Note:
The PA12BMW is not compatible with vehicles equipped with Navigation or iDrive system. Satellite Radio, CD Changer must be disconnected.  Vehicles equipped with the BMW DSP system (DSP button on radio) require the PA12BMWDSP.

Installation Note:
The PA12BMW and PA12BMWDSP do not connect at the radio, and instead connect at the CD changer location.  If the vehicle did not come with a factory CD changer installed it may still be pre-wired for it, so consult the table below. Some later models of Z4, X3 and Mini might not be pre-wired for changer and thus might not be compatible.
